I chose ICECO based on various reviews as well as vids from HOBOTECH. I wanted this design where the lid opens length wise as opposed to the side. It works best for my setup. The JP series, 30, 40, 50 all have the same footprint in size. The only difference is height. Since they all have the same compressor, I would encourage people to get the 40 or 50 if they have the space. According to the vids they all have roughly the same power consumption.
Since the purchase of my JP30 a couple of months ago, I have added the new Bluetti AC50S and a Rockpals 100-watt Solar Panel. Along with silicone ice cube trays with lids for my iced coffee in the mornings.
I had read that one of the biggest problems with cheap 12v compressor fridges is the failure of the compressors after a year or so. ICECO mainly uses DANFOSS compressors which are known for there longevity. You might see identical fridge bodies, but they do not have the same compressors.
Max and Eco mode. All this means is when set in Max mode it will operate more like a home fridge. The compressor kicks on more often to keep the internal temp within 2-4 degrees of the set temp. If you set it at 37F then it might take the temp down to 35F and kick back on at 39F. Eco allows for more like an 8-10-degree swing. The compressor does not kick on as much, saving you energy and possibly a dead battery. When on it is using around 54 watts. I am using the readout screen from my Bluetti. So max while driving and eco at night while using my Sol Gen.
Coldest area is going to be at the bottom near the front. Farthest area away from the compressor. It comes with a removable wire basket with a removable wire divider. I like both. I can stack 14 cans, 12oz, of beer on 1 side and food on the other side. Using all areas, it will hold 22 16oz Crystal Geyser bottles. There is a small shelf area where the light is. That is directly above the compressor. It is about 20 degrees warmer. Perfect for fruit or veggies. Do not be surprised when you see vids of people setting their temps at 32 degrees and it not freezing things. It will but only if it is sitting still for a long period. That is why they are setting it at 5F for freezer mode. Get a cheap refrigerator thermometer. My next experiment will be to make a small divider out of Styrofoam to see what it does to the temps.
Mine came with an insulation cover bag. Big plus. It is a little large. Better. It is made with a thin layer of cheap foam between the fabric. But the extra room allowed me to put a double layer of bubble wrap insulation along the front, back and top. As well as ¾ inch Styrofoam along the sides. DON’T COVER THE VENTS. The only real downside of the bag is that it is black. It will get warm in the sun. I am now working on covering the windows in the back of my jeep to keep it out of direct sunlight.
Cords. 1 AC cord for home. No brick needed on the cord. ICECO fridges have the electronics built in. 1 DC cigarette lighter Plug. This cord alone is long enough. I run from the dash, down the console, up to the fringe and is just long enough for my fridge slide extended. But wait, ICECO gives me another DC extension cord. Great if I plan on using this in a limo. The cig connector could be better. ICECO if your listening, I would be willing to buy an accessory better connector. Something like ARB or Dometic offers. Also, many of us need a battery pack (solar generator) for overnight trips. Something like your 200wah power station. I love the form factor. Its exactly the right shape, just needs to be bigger. 600-800 wah hours, 12v regulated, and pass-thru would be perfect.
It arrived well packed. I plugged it in the house to cool it down to below freezing. It only took 20? Min to reach 28 from 63 degrees, then I set to 3 and went to bed. It runs quiet with occasional little sounds. My husband drives OTR so we’ll be taking it out on the road after thanksgiving. I’m looking forward to NOT eating out all the time, we’ll have lots of frozen food and I’ll cook. I’m sure it’ll be great!
